Culture & Entertainment

The patios in the old part of Palma and their old houses are often more culturally interesting than some of the biggest events advertised. Although Mallorca also has things to offer on this level such as plays and concerts with excellent acoustics, a walk around the galleries and museums, or a night out at the Casino seeing some special show - the cultural offer on the islands is boundless.

Museums & Galleries

In the Calle de Portella is the Mallorcan Museum. Housed in an old Mallorcan mansion (1634), its archaeological exhibits include prehistoric, Roman, Moorish and medieval artifacts. Paintings and sculptures are also displayed (closed Mondays. Phone: 971 71 75 40). In the Calle de Serra are the 10th-century Moorish Baths (Banys Arabs), an example of Moorish art in Mallorca (visiting times: 9 a.m.-7 p.m. Phone: 971 72 15 49).

Music & Theatre

Located on the Paseo Maritimo is the Auditorium, the concert hall where leading international music competitions, theatre and folk music festivals are staged. A stone lyre commemorates its founder, Marcos Ferragut. Rising at the point where the Paseo ends are the twin Pelaires towers, which date from the 14th century and once served to anchor the chains that were used to close off the small medieval harbour.

Nightlife

In Palma's Casco antiguo, the historical center with its charming narrow lanes, you will find a large number of pubs and fashionable locals. Also one eats very well here, so this is maybe the ideal place to start your tour through Palma's nightlife.

Paseo Maritimo offers elegant and sophisticated places, discotheques and locals with live performances of jazz, swing and blues. Zona Darsena Can Barbara is preferred by young visitors who want to dance. At Paseo Mallorca, in the very center of town, there are numerous elegant places and cocktail bars.

Zona de la Playa, the area of the beaches, is great fun for the young ones with its countless discotheques where you can dance until dawn.

The locals at Plaza Gomila showcase the island's traditional style and are heavily visited as well. Another great area to enjoy.
